Capital Document Solutions, Scotland’s leading independent office equipment and document solutions business, has further demonstrated its growth plans by opening a new office in Dundee.

The Exchange Street office will service both the public and commercial sector in the city and the surrounding areas of Angus, Tayside and north Fife.

Capital recently announced a rise in year-on-year turnover from £13.1m to £14.5m and remains on track to increase turnover by 20% in 2012. The business has operations in Aberdeen, Edinburgh, Glasgow and Shetland.

In addition to its sales and service staff already covering this area, two further jobs have been created in Dundee, and this will be increased to four by the end of the year.

Tom Flockhart, Managing Director of Capital Document Solutions, said:

“Dundee was a natural choice to set up a new office due to the fact we have a large number of clients already in the area and four of our engineers are already based in Dundee. We will be looking to grow the business significantly through an unwavering commitment to standards – sound professional advice, market leading hardware and software products and outstanding after sales service and support.”

Capital Document Solutions Area Sales Director John Campbell, who was brought up in Tealing and went to school in Forfar, said:

“We believe there is great potential for the Dundee office, particularly for our approach to provide a complete document solution – improving clients’ document processes and helping reduce costs. We want to play our part in the success of local businesses by delivering a thoroughly professional and efficient service.”

Peter Benison, of Dundee, has been appointed as an additional sales executive for the new office. The company has over 160 staff in total supporting businesses and organisations throughout Scotland.

Capital Document Solutions provides a range of office document and print solutions including copiers, printers, scanners and software with comprehensive maintenance and training support.

Capital specialises in advising companies and organisations on how to rationalise its diverse fleet of copiers, printers, scanners and faxes as well as control and reduce copy/print volumes through significant improvements in document processes.

Through these processes, clients can significantly reduce operating costs. In most cases, clients who implement the new improved document solution, achieve savings in excess of 30%.

In June 2009, Capital was appointed approved suppliers to the National Scottish Procurement Framework for Office Equipment – the only independent Scottish supplier out of the 7 selected. It has since secured the largest share of contracts awarded to date within this sector and has been rated highest by Scottish Procurement on quality of contract management and service provision amongst all of the suppliers. The business was recently praised by Infrastructure and Capital Investment Secretary Alex Neil MSP as an example of a Scottish business seizing the opportunities presented by reshaped procurement policy.

For more information visit the new office at 20 Exchange Court, Exchange Street, Dundee, DD1 3DE.

Office equipment specialist Capital Document Solutions has been hailed by a Scottish Government minister as a textbook example of a business seizing the opportunities presented by reshaped procurement policy.

Capital, which has offices throughout Scotland, has won over 30% of the public sector contracts awarded under an office equipment procurement framework introduced in 2009.

Infrastructure and Capital Investment Secretary Alex Neil MSP visited the Edinburgh HQ of the business to hear first-hand how Capital has worked to win the largest share of contracts tendered within the framework. Alex Neil said:

The Scottish Government is working hard to ensure our procurement spend delivers maximum benefits for the Scottish economy. Capital Document Solutions are a fine example of how independent Scottish companies can take full advantage of public sector contracts to help their business. Our reforms are designed to make it easier and simpler to bid for work, and as a result, there are increasing numbers of companies like Capital Document Solutions who are winning work through high quality bids.

Capital was one of seven businesses and the only independent Scottish-based company to be appointed as an approved supplier to public and voluntary sector organisations under the Scottish Procurement Framework for Office Equipment.

Capital managing director Tom Flockhart says:

In my view the new procurement system presents an outstanding opportunity for ambitious and well run Scottish companies to compete for contracts in this country.

In May 2011, a Scottish Procurement survey of customer satisfaction placed Capital ahead of the other six approved suppliers in terms of quality of contract management and service delivery. Capital provides a range of office equipment and document solutions including copiers, printers, scanners and software with national maintenance and training support.

Myself and the team will also be blogging on a regular basis to keep you up-to-date on the latest trends in document solutions from our partners, industry analysts and the wider business marketplace. Some of the themes we’ll be covering include: how to reduce the cost of copying and printing, document security, mobile printing, green issues as well as tips on how to deal with information overload. We will also be featuring mini case studies giving you details on how we’ve helped some of our clients gain control of their documents and their costs. We’ll be covering topics that will interest senior managers from both the public and private sectors as we all try to do more with less and at less cost through these challenging economic times. Our blogs will also let you know about the various Capital teams who work throughout Scotland, letting you know more about them and also some of the charity work they do.

I hope you find the new website informative and as always, if we can help in anyway, please get in touch. Tom

There’s a lot of buzz in the business community just now about Managed Print Service and to be honest, quite a lot of hype too. But what is a Managed Print Service? Look on industry websites and you’ll probably come away with many different descriptions.

I’ll keep it simple – a Managed Print Service can help you gain control of your copy/print/scan fleet, reduce the total cost of running it and also give you peace of mind that one supplier will look after all your document needs. You don’t need to deal with different suppliers for equipment, service, consumables and support, now all you need is one supplier and one invoice each quarter.

And the stats for those who do implement a Managed Print Service are impressive – some of the clients I deal with have made six figure savings every year - no wonder it’s creating such a buzz!

It’s because MPS can save companies so much money that I predict it will be a service that will be around for some time to come.

I thought Ricoh’s short video on MPS was good at cutting through the jargon… what do you think?
