Capital Solutions were once again proud to support the Borders Change Foundation this year at their annual charity dinner held at the Carfraemill Hotel near Lauder which this year was in aid of The Lavender Touch. We have now supported the Change Foundation for around 7 years.
The Borders Change Foundation charity dinners first started in 1996 by James Marjoribanks of Hogg & Thorburn in aid of the Border Kidney Patients Trust and Border Marie Curie Cancer Care and they continued until 2003 with the last dinner raising funds for a Gastrointestinal Cancer Nurse at the Borders General Hospital and The Lavender Touch. Then, in 2007, James had a chance meeting with the one and only Gordon (Shuggie) Brown of G.B. Telecom and he was solely responsible for his decision to re-start the Dinners under the new banner of The Borders Change Foundation and here we are now in 2013 at the seventh “Change” Dinner!!
In one form or another, this is their 15th Charity Dinner and they have raised nearly £320,000 since 1996!! Some causes they keep coming back to because they are so deserving and The Lavender Touch is definitely one.
Since 2003, the charity has funded a complementary therapy and support service for people living with cancer, and their families, in the Scottish Borders. They provide therapies to those people who are referred to them from the health professionals in the area. These help with the side effects of cancer, such as nausea, anxiety, muscle aches and pains, insomnia to name a few. Now, in addition to their hands on therapies, they are working on producing products for others.
The Lavender Touch have recently supported the fundraising for the Margaret Kerr Unit and had the pleasure of seeing their Lavender Touch Room opening within it. This now adds to the Lavender Touch integration within NHS Borders, and they already work closely with the Macmillan Centre and provide support within the renal unit.
In 2003 their service cost approx. £5,000 to run per year. Now in 2013 they estimate this will be approximately £35,000. “We are victims of our own success and we always seem to be asking Borderers to donate money. They never disappoint and for that we are grateful”.
The Lavender Touch will also be hosting a Golf & Spa Day with an Evening Dinner at the MacDonald Cardrona Hotel, please support them if you can
