Performers on the night
The night will feature:
- City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra with Ludovic Morlot, Conductor;
- Edinburgh Festival Chorus with Christopher Bell, Chorus Master; and
- Cellist, Sheku Kanneh-Mason.
Sheku Kanneh-Mason is the winner of the 2016 BBC Young Musician of the Year competition, the first black artist to do so. Already in great demand from major orchestras and concert halls worldwide, Sheku became a household name worldwide in May 2018 after playing at the wedding of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex at Windsor Castle.
The origins of the Festival and the Edinburgh International Festival 2018
In 1945, following World War 2, the International Festival’s aim was to bring people together through the arts. Edinburgh residents responded with donations of coal to light the castle and also opened their homes to visitors and performers.
Today, Edinburgh welcomes thousands of visitors. The International Festival presents a programme featuring finest performers and ensembles from dance, opera, music and theatre.
