Derek Mackay praises Capital’s apprenticeship & recycling

Cabinet Secretary for Finance and the Constitution, Derek Mackay visited the head office of Capital Document Solutions in Edinburgh last week, to tour our extensive facilities and meet with key members of staff.

Derek Mackay’s visit

Derek Mackay met with Managing Director Tom Flockhart. Then he was introduced to our young apprentices Dylan Motion, Cameron Laing and Scott Inglis.  They joined Capital at ages 16, 17 and 18, respectively.

These three trainees were sourced through the Edinburgh Guarantee Scheme, and successfully completed a six-month placement in our workshop.  They are now full time employees, having also completed a three year SVQ Apprenticeship as Office Equipment Engineers.

Their role involves customising our suppliers’ large, multi-functional devices. This is achieved by adding associated hardware and print management software on behalf of clients’ individual requirements.

Mr Mackay’s meeting with the apprentices highlighted Capital’s long-standing commitment to create career opportunities for young people throughout Scotland.

Zero Waste Scotland and the Circular Economy

In addition to these valued opportunities that Capital offer, we are also keen to reduce both the short and long term consumption of new materials and resources in supply and service operations, in support of Zero Waste Scotland’s objectives and the Circular Economy.

Mr Mackay also heard about the well-established internal processes that focus on recycling and re-use of parts and consumables.

These processes give priority to re-using products and parts to retain their economic value for as much as, and as for long as possible.  All end-of-life parts are segregated for appropriate material recovery.

Cabinet Secretary for Finance, Derek MacKay said:

Businesses like Capital have a central role to play in achieving better employment opportunities. Apprenticeships and vocational education are key to delivering that goal. Capital have successfully integrated those programmes into their operation. It was great to meet with Dylan, Cameron and Scott and learn about their experience from apprentice to full time employee.”

At Capital, we are committed to the environment, and we also constantly strive to help clients reduce their carbon footprint.  We customise energy saving features in line with your energy saving objectives.  We’re also proud that all of our branches have the Environmental Accreditation BS EN ISO 14001, and only supply Energy Saving equipment.
