We bid a fond farewell to Dougie Russell and Richard Thompson this year! Dougie and Richard are both Senior Account Managers in our Edinburgh office.
Dougie and Richard leave Capital Document Solutions after 37 and 30 years respectively in the office equipment industry.
The early years – Dougie Russell & Richard Thompson

A fresh-faced Dougie!
Dougie was educated at Dalkeith High School before taking up a position as Engineering Apprentice with Ferranti Scotland. There he served his apprenticeship working in various departments, before finishing up repairing measuring equipment and Autocourt Petrol Pumps.
His career then took him to AB Dick in 1980. There he worked as an Offset Litho Service Engineer / Copier Engineer. During this period, he attended Telford College to gain qualifications in Electronics.
At college, Dougie met Ian Young (the first Capital employee!) who was working for a company then called Capital Copiers. It was Ian who suggested Dougie should apply. The rest, as they say, is history!
Dougie joined at Capital in 1982, initially as Service Engineer on data products before moving to copier sales in 1987, predominately in the Borders area

Young Richard!
Richard was educated at George Heriot’s School and left there in 1979. From there, he studied French & Law at the University of Edinburgh, receiving an MA Hons in 1983.
Richard started his time at Capital in 1988, where he worked his way up to Senior Account Manager.
Hitting the heights for charity

Richard and Jennifer abseil for charity
In 2015, Richard helped raise over £1,000 for a leading cancer support charity, having completed an abseil challenge down the Forth Rail Bridge.
Along with partner Jennifer Grant, Richard completed the 165 ft descent to raise funds for Macmillan Cancer Support – a cause that is particularly close to Richard’s heart having lost his mother, Isabelle, to the disease.
Beyond Capital
Dougie Russell can’t wait to get the chance to spend some more time with his granddaughters, play more golf, tennis, squash, and spend more time doing DIY for the family.

Dougie’s grandchildren
Richard intends to spend more time skiing in the French Alps once he leaves Capital, and he is looking forward to getting out and about with Milo!

Milo knows how to relax
Both Dougie and Richard plan to play plenty of table tennis and golf, and get together to stockpile freshly cut timber for Richard’s wood burning stove!
