The Capital group hit a big milestone in 2019! Celebrating our 40th anniversary as Scotland’s largest independent office equipment and document solutions provider.
40 years of success
Founded as Capital Copiers in a small office in Edinburgh in 1979, the company quickly established itself across Scotland.
Today, there are over 200 staff operating from branches in Edinburgh, Glasgow, Dundee, Aberdeen and also Shetland. Along with Highland Office Equipment in Inverness, the company provides the highest standards of advice and local service across the whole of Scotland.
Thanks to well established partnerships with Ricoh, Konica Minolta, HP and Canon, Capital is set for many more years of success!
A Capital celebration
Saturday 2nd March saw colleagues travel from all our branches – including Field Engineer Mark Mouat who blew in from Shetland – to celebrate at The Stables, Prestonfield House Hotel.
This stunning venue hosted more than 160 guests for a three course meal (excluding the cake!) and lashing of entertainment.
The afternoon kicked off with drinks and also canapes. Colleagues new and old and our many supporters enjoyed meeting and greeting. Mind reader Drew McAdam, magician Elliott Henderson and also Glasgow caricaturist Chris Sommerville worked the room.

As attendees were seated, they were delighted by a welcoming performance by George Watson’s College Pipes and Drums under the leadership of Pipe Major Iain Simpson.
Our MD & Founder Tom Flockhart gave warm thanks and congratulations. Then guests enjoyed a local cuisine of whisky-cured salmon and beef en croute with haggis accompanied a slideshow of memories.
Conversation broke out over food, with guests revelling in the enchanting surroundings. Flower arrangements from Montrose Terrace’s Maxwell Flowers and balloons displays from Gorgie’s Balloons Are Taking Off were scattered throughout the venue. Big Letter Events provided the 4 and the 0! A thistle-decorated cake from Liggy’s in Stockbridge rounded off the food, its fine craftsmanship adding to the decor.
That’s entertainment!
Scottish comedian Des Clarke not only amused as MC, but performed a set peppered with stories of his Gorbals upbringing.

Also hailing from Glasgow, The Jack Dames took to the stage to provide the music for some serious dancing!

The glorious celebration went out with a bang, with a raffle of generous prizes from our suppliers and supporters. Lastly, a fire entertainer enchanted guests as they went safely off home!
Before the celebrations came to a close however, more surprises were in store. Local favourites The Vintage Girls added a touch of retro and sang “Happy Birthday” (introduced by Sales Director Andy Aikman!).

With thanks to our in-house organisers, designers and printers!
The event was managed by Marketing Manager Emma Pedersen. Event support and design work was by Content Marketing & Events Executive Barbara Fitzsimons. Table cards, name tags, gift certificates and promotional posters were printed in-house on our Ricoh Pro C7100SX by Database Admin Assistant Shona Hamilton.
