On Saturday 18th June Team Capital joined 212 other hardy people taking part in the Rob Roy Challenge – Schiehallion’s Shadow.

The Schiehallions Shadow saw Gary, Gordon and Paul walk/run 16 miles from Pitlochry to Kenmore. Also they then cycled 56 miles from Kenmore to West Loch Rannoch and back to Kenmore.

Andy & Mark changed to the Big Red on the day, which required the above 16 mile hike followed by a 35 mile cycle.

Due to leg injuries, Gary McLennan was only able to do the 56 mile cycle – in an impressive six hours.

In addition our IT expert Paul Calvert completed the Shiehallion Shadow in an impressive seven and a half hours!

Therefore, out of 475 people taking part in all the challenges, our team were all over the finish line in under twelve hours.

“It was a long and tough day, as has been seen by a few of us hobbling around in the Edinburgh office this week,” said Gordon.

All agreed it was a fantastic day and were grateful of the Athlete Angels leg massages before the cycle.

At time of publishing we have beaten our target and raised over £2500, not including the £400 raised in our Head Office Turbo Challenge.

Their main event is the Martin Currie Rob Roy Challenge – held annually in June. It is now one of the most successful fundraising events held in Scotland.

The 4 different races in the Rob Roy Challenge are Rob Roy Ramble, MacGregor’s Leap, Big Red and Schiehallion’s Shadow.

Since it was launched in 2006 it has seen hardy entrants raise almost £3m for a variety of worthy charities.

With the 2016 Martin Currie Charitable Foundation (MCCF) the charity partners include Breast Cancer Now, Cyrenians, Maggie’s, Marie Curie and Mercy Corps.
