Sponsored Skydive in aid of Befriend a Child
On the 25th May 2013, Pete Major, along with BNI members Aileen Scott, Bob Gentle, John Willis, Hitesh Mitchell Mehta, Calum Sinclair and Jason Moir will be doing a sponsored skydive in aid of Befriend a Child and hopes to make around £1,000.00 in sponsorship. Befriend a Child is a wonderful local children’s charity. They offer a befriending service for deprived and vulnerable children in the city and shire.
Pete explains “I am a member of BNI, the international networking organisation. Our group in Aberdeen is supporting the work of Befriend-a-Child. We are currently focusing our fund raising efforts for this worthwhile cause.”
Pete is one of our longest-serving members of staff with over 30 years in the business. He is currently working in Sales at our Aberdeen office.
Before joining Capital, Pete initially started his working life in the Royal Air Force. Working as an air electronics operator he was based all over. This included Yorkshire, Cornwall, Northern Ireland and Sharjah in the Middle East before moving to Kinloss in 1972. Pete has lived nearby in Nairn ever since. He is still in touch with a few of his old friends from those days.
After leaving the RAF he retrained as a welder but after three years in the job he realised that it wasn’t for him so opted for a new challenge.
Initially he went into selling insurance products and, although it was a hard job, he learned a lot about himself and found he had an aptitude for sales and interacting with people.
In 1979 Pete joined Rank Xerox (now Xerox) in a sales role and started to learn all about the office equipment trade. In 1982 he took this knowledge and, along with three partners, started West End Business Systems in Aberdeen. Tom Flockhart, Managing Director of Capital, had approached West End several times with his vision of where they would fit into the wider Capital operation and was eager to buy West End, while keeping Pete and other directors on board. In autumn of 2009, West End joined Capital Document Solutions.
